ABSTRACT
The subproject was carried out by the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Ecology at RuhrUniversity of Bochum and CBM GmbH, Aachen, which was responsible for capacity development.
1.1.2 Stabilization of waste rock dumps (subproject II, 2008-2013)
The task of the subproject was to quantify the stability risks on waste rock dumps and to develop solutions to reduce them. The project site was a waste rock dump typical for Quang Ninh region filled with heterogeneous waste rock materials using the sidehill fill dumping method. Stability risks are caused by the segregation of waste rock particles, mechanically labile material layers inside the dump and subsidence processes due to uncompressed materials (Ahmad et al. 2009, Deissmann et al. 2008, Martens et al. 2009, Diss Ahmad).
