ABSTRACT
Expansive clay is a type of soil usually experiencing large swelling strain when wetted because of its mineralogical composition. Gens & Alonso (1992) stated that the physicochemical phenomena which are related to the properties of the clay minerals in unsaturated expansive soils is obvious, which leads to the complex mechanical and hydraulic behaviors.
