Kwon (2004) compared refusals between Korean English speakers of different language efficiency and American English speakers from the perspectives of frequency and content of semantic formulas, observed pragmatic transfer in all groups of EFL learners, and see positive correlation between pragmatic transfer and learners’ proficiency.
