ABSTRACT

This chapter advocates the notion of mindfulness practice through the conceptual framework of ancient literary writings. The conception of mindfulness practices may have developed in the present world but there is another aspect of learning mindfulness practice and meditation techniques which have been given in the literary writings of the ancient period as well. The present requirement of leader/employee to be always alert, aware, and mindful at the competitive workplace is enhancing in the contemporary world, which also results in stress-related issues; therefore, there is a need for developing and learning new procedures of mindfulness practice in today’s environment. We have analyzed as well as explored the Upanishads, the Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā, and other literary texts to identify the new conceptions of mindfulness from a literary perspective. The scholarship on mindfulness has also included the concepts of optimism, awareness, and consciousness, which have been considered to be the foundational terms by the scholars in this regard. This work provides a new tactic of wisdom of mindfulness and gives an introduction to literature in the philosophy of modern management and organizational disciplines. It is an attempt to capsulize the texts and works of literature related to mindfulness in one place, with an outlook of enriching the notion of ‘mindfulness practice at the workplace’, and presenting the universality of ancient texts.
