Today’s best practice is tomorrow’s historical anecdote. •e need to seek the best methods and equipment is obvious, particularly when the evidence may vary in stature from meters to nanometers and observations are made in diverse natural settings. •is does not mean that simple techniques will not continue to play a role. Apart from their diversity, the principles related to forensic science are o¨en simple once understood; this chapter seeks to provide a starting point.
