ABSTRACT

Knowledge in biology of what constitutes normality is a key part of understanding and interpreting what is abnormal and thereby provides the cornerstone for much scientic investigational work. To illustrate this, Norman Chapman, a mammalogist and eldworker, the author of numerous scientic papers and books, discusses ‘Dentition of Mammals’. She emphasises the fact that research on teeth can assist in a whole range of  investigational studies, including the determination of age, sex and health status.
