ABSTRACT

This chapter will effectively conclude the discussion of the cold case model. The tasks required within the third and fourth phases are presented here. These two phases have been assimilated into one chapter due to the fact that the last two phases are more highly correlated with each other than Phase I and Phase II. First, we discuss Phase III, which includes the formulation of relationship charts, suspectology reports, logic trees, and interview strategies, all interspersed with group meetings and team collaboration (Figure 6.1). The second segment of the chapter is devoted to Phase IV of the evaluation model, which begins with the analysis of named persons of interest within the case file. The persons of interest are ranked from highest to lowest priority according to the correlating pros and cons identified by evaluators. This final phase of the evaluation model subsequently includes the development of pre-, peri-, and post-offense behavior as they relate to each person of interest. Following this, evaluators will shape an investigative plan pursuant to the follow-up investigation (Figure 6.2). Finally, an official evaluation report is compiled to present to investigators (Figure 6.3).
