ABSTRACT

A clash of cultures, technologies, and business perspectives is inevitable given the trends in technology and business strategy. Even the Year 2000 issue has shown how these two disciplines have become similar over time. With the juxtaposition of these two disciplines — controls and IT — comes the potential clash over ownership of the architectural and technological decisions at the boundary between these two worlds. Although this boundary is blurring and becoming more of a cultural firewall than a technological barrier, the strategies, organizational issues, skills, and tools have not been defined to manage this rapidly changing space.
