ABSTRACT
It would be too tempting to claim that law enforcement is at a crossroads. This statement would have been true for most periods in the history of policing since Robert Peel. However, it is clear that the profession faces sizable challenges in this early part of the new century. The five themes explored in this book included some of the more significant. In this concluding chapter, we consider some of the pragmatic aspects and challenges posed by these five themes. The discussion is set within the context of the roles and responsibilities of contemporary policing.
