ABSTRACT

Stress is an occupational hazard of modern living. In today’s fast-paced, hightech society, the debilitating effects of stress are not limited to those engaged in police work. From college students to air traffic controllers, firefighters, and working mothers, stress has become as much a part of life in the 21st century as computers and cell phones. In fact, illnesses related to stress have now replaced infectious diseases as the leading cause of death. No longer do people die primarily as a result of the influenza, typhoid, cholera, and other epidemics that produced rampant mortality rates among our ancestors.
