ABSTRACT

Women are active in all areas of society, including work, sports and arts as well as the domestic environment. Women and men still live different lives. Risk of offending may also be decreased by the fact that women access mental health services more often than men. An obvious difference between women and men lies in their hormonal balance. In the nineteenth century it was widely thought that menstruation was associated with female crime, particularly with shoplifting and violence. Criminal women are more likely than not to come from lower socioeconomic groups and from families with a high incidence of parental absenteeism and/or psychopathology. An obvious difference between women and men lies in their hormonal balance. In the nineteenth century it was widely thought that menstruation was associated with female crime, particularly with shoplifting and violence. Mental disorder seems to have a significantly greater impact on the risk of homicide by women than by men.
