ABSTRACT
Switzerland is a federal state that includes 26 cantons. Each canton has its own constitution, executive, parliament, and courts. This federal organization allows the cantons a large degree of independency. Switzerland has four national languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. The linguistic diversity, the complexity of legal traditions, and the large prerogatives that are managed at the cantonal level represent significant peculiarities of the Swiss federal system.
