ABSTRACT

Introduction As we come to the close of the fi rst decade of the 21st century, the world continues to experience political, social, and economic challenges that infl uence healthcare delivery, from the most advanced system to the least resourced point of care. In many areas of the world, accurate data and information about nursing care practice and resources are not adequate to support decision making. Nurse leaders since Florence Nightingale have emphasized that a clear articulation of nursing practice is essential to support decision making for nursing.1,2 The International Classifi cation for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) is a terminology that can facilitate the description of the broad, diverse, and constantly changing domain of nursing practice.
