ABSTRACT

We began this journey with the quest to discover how good cops go bad. There are complicated sociological processes influencing organizational behaviors such as groupthink. There are also simple external forces causing the individual to see things from a different perspective such as liminality. The constant variable is that change will occur. How much or how far that change carries the officer depends on the individual, but make no mistake; there will be change. The analogy of becoming “blue” is used to illustrate the socialization process. I have identified definitive stages along the course of the process and use a “blue sliding scale” to visualize the concept of transformational stages and potential benchmarks.
