ABSTRACT
AFTERWORD I look back and it’s been almost 24 years, yet I can still recall my meeting with the sheriff who gave me that first opportunity in law enforcement. Remaining vividly in my memory is that day, and still my stomach begins to churn with the same sense of nervousness it did that morning as I pinned the Silver Star to my freshly pressed uniform shirt.
