ABSTRACT

The present investigation deals with the effectiveness of media learning towards development of conservation attitude among students of undergraduate level – an indirect way of promoting environmental education (EE) at higher studies level. During the present investigation, the undergraduate students attended the traditional theoretical classroom teaching on mangrove ecosystem and their perceptions levels were evaluated. A seminar talk along with documentary film based on Borneo mangrove ecosystem was represented towards the same students by powerpoint presentation. Different factors of mangrove ecosystem were explained properly by interacting students and the perception levels were also evaluated again. By using questionnaires data was collected through close-ended questions and interviews and discussion with open-ended questions. One to one interaction was also followed. Effectivity of media learning was judged through statistical calculation (paired t-test). Results revealed that there is a significant difference (p < 0.005) in awareness level between pre- and post-period of promotion of media-based learning in students towards conservation. Therefore, interviewee response attitude changed towards positivity which was reflected through enhanced perception and awareness level about mangrove ecology along with conservation, 338which is a key for promoting education from environmental perspective at large scale.
