ABSTRACT

Diversity in entrepreneurship is a perennial popular topic due to the importance of looking outside the box for new ideas about potential business ventures. The term ‘diversity’ is continually changing based on cultural and societal understandings of what it means to be different. In the past, diversity meant including different ethnic groups in research about entrepreneurship, but this has broadened to other minority groups of society being included in the definition of diversity in entrepreneurship. This book takes a holistic perspective of diversity to include under-represented parts of society that are not commonly researched in the mainstream entrepreneurship literature. Thus, variables such as demographic position, age, medical condition, political beliefs and sexual orientation are all included in the meaning of diversity. This introduction chapter to the book highlights the importance of diversity in entrepreneurship by defining the topic and suggesting future research paths.
