ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurship happens in communities due to the social connections needed to make business opportunities a reality. Diversity is a key element of communities because they can include a range of people, businesses and other entities that work towards a common goal. When discussing diversity and entrepreneurship in communities, it is useful to focus on the way they address social challenges. This can occur by focusing on creative mechanisms that facilitate new business activity. This chapter will discuss the way entrepreneurship occurs in communities by highlighting creativity as a defining feature of community engagement. As entrepreneurs are frequently driven by both necessity and opportunity, it is useful to focus on communities as a social building mechanism for encouraging diversity. The findings of this chapter will serve as a good theoretical foundation to understand diversity and entrepreneurship in communities.
