ABSTRACT

Ch'u Ch'iu-pai is well known to students of modern Chinese history as a leader of the Chinese Communist Party during one of its bleakest periods and as a pioneer exponent of proletarian literature and the latinization of written Chinese. Comrade Ch'u Ch'iu-pai was not only one of the greatest leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, but also one of the most outstanding leaders of the Chinese people. On the occasion of the first anniversary of his sacrifice, not only members of the Chinese Communist Party, but all the people of China should commemorate this outstanding leader. Various collections of biographical sketches of revolutionary martyrs published by the Chinese Communists in the 1940s almost invariably included highly laudatory articles on Ch'u. Ch'u's official reputation remained high after the establishment of the People's Republic. Indeed, special measures were taken to honor his memory.
