ABSTRACT

Some people—so-called revisionists—say that the Holocaust is a myth, a hoax, even a political instrument wielded by Jews in general and the state of Israel in particular. The Holocaust was too vast and far-flung an enterprise requiring too much organization and communication to be accomplished without generating a great deal of paperwork. An isolated short document is comparatively easy to concoct, particularly if the fabricator has letterhead or blank paper of the right provenance and vintage. Unaccompanied by documentation, the heaps of corpses familiar to the public in photographs and motion pictures taken by liberators of Nazi concentration camps might depict any of hundreds of massacres in innumerable locations anywhere in the world since the invention of photography. The documents shown in facsimile are held, as cited, on original paper or on microfilm by the National Archives and Records Administration.
