ABSTRACT

Understanding the forces of change and the emerging issues in renewable natural resources and selecting appropriate policies are only part of the solution to long-term renewable natural resource management problems. Environmental education embraces a large and complex range of activities. It is conducted both within and outside formal educational systems and curricula. The rationale for the comprehensive, publicly supported agricultural research and information delivery system grew out of the nation's policy of building an efficient, highly decentralized commercial agricultural system composed of independent, family-owned farms rather than a highly centralized factory-type agriculture dominated by large corporations or other types of centralized management production units. The Cooperative Extension Service is a major component of the agricultural research delivery system, as it is the vehicle for the transfer of a broad spectrum of agricultural research findings to its clientele in all counties and agricultural communities throughout the United States.
