The development of the commercial process for cassava
Developing countries generally suffer from insufficient funds to meet the daily needs of their people, much less to consider spending money for research and development (R&D). The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi, Nigeria, has passed through the stages and is prepared to share its experiences with other countries on "The development of the commercial process for cassava". The Northern Engineering Research Association along with the equipment manufacturers however, "failed to come up with a package process" because of their "nonfamiliarity" with cassava and gari. The development of a process and a subsequent commercialisation of the process should not be an end to further investigation on the process and plants. In conclusion the continuous interaction between R&D activities and the production system cannot be over-emphasized, particularly when the equipment or process being used commercially is the product of the R&D.
