ABSTRACT

One of the most useful outcomes of the CERI SPA project was a series of ten special reports on innovations in rural education. The reports themselves can be divided into two general categories: delivery and support system innovations and in-school innovations. There are five special reports under the classification of delivery and support system innovations. The countries represented here are Portugal, Scotland, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand. The delivery system reports are united by their focus on new strategies for the provision of basic educational services in very remote rural communities. The common thread running through the reports on support systems is an emphasis on new strategies and programs for providing rural students, teachers, and school systems with the external resources and assistance they require. The reports describe interesting attempts to provide rural schools with resources and assistance which are not available within the rural community itself.
