ABSTRACT

The key role played by the agricultural universities in the transfer of technology and the excellent results achieved by them in the transformation of agriculture in many areas have proved the soundness, efficacy, and relevance of the pattern of the land-grant universities to countries like India. The concept of land-grant universities is as relevant to India as to any other country, including the United States, to adaptations based on the local environment and culture. The emphasis on basic virtues of administration, such as integrity, discipline, teamwork, and the right methods and procedures is essential if the numerous management functions, such as planning, programming, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, appraising, and motivating, are to be performed effectively. The University of Illinois, the collaborating university from the US, had given an ultimatum to the U.P. government that it would part company with the university, the board of management had been suspended, and the act of the university had been replaced by an ordinance.
