ABSTRACT
Pleasure cross-country trail rides offer a wonderful source of entertainment for the pleasure-horse owner or rider. Trail riding is probably one of the most enjoyable things a person can do with a pleasure horse. Horsemanship is an integral part of how well a horse will perform on the trail. Gymkhana events or games on horseback are very popular with young riders, but they also are enjoyed by many adults who like to be competitive and are challenged by the harmony required between horse and rider. Combined training tests more facets of a horse's training and abilities than does any other single type of competition. Many good event horses can go on to excell as dressage horses or competitive trail horses, or as excellent all-around pleasure-horses. Driving calls for the horse to move quietly and under complete control of the driver. The driver under proper title is called the "whip.".
