ABSTRACT

The fundamentals of the military profession in the United States (US) will remain unchanged to come. They are embodied in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the US, the commissions awarded to officers by the president, the oaths of acceptance of the commissions, contracts with enlisted personnel, and the oaths of acceptance of contracts. Changes in military profession will directly reflect changes in society. This is the traditional and logical manner by which the military profession evolves and develops its characteristics. Since the US military includes members from the whole society, the rules and regulations of that society will have a significant impact on the military services. In addition to the impact of social changes, the military role in international affairs will contribute greatly to the changing characteristics of the profession. The most significant and least understood influence at work on military profession results from the changing nature of the authority reposed in military leaders.
