ABSTRACT

The disparity between the poor and the rich in the world is growing. In one word, the relations between the South and the North, instead of relaxing, are further deteriorating. The Brandt Commission report recognises the justified demand of the developing countries for the establishment of the New International Economic Order, advocates dialogue between the North and the South and a gradual reform of the existing irrational and unjust international economic system. South-South cooperation will help advance North-South negotiations, and improve North-South relations for the establishment of a new international economic order. The South and the North should hold consultations immediately and begin at once to make adequate and careful preparations in order to ensure the successful convening of the meeting. South-South cooperation is one between the developing countries on a fair, rational, equal and mutual beneficial basis.
