ABSTRACT

Soviet naval science is under constant development. Contemporary naval tactics—the most mobile and flexible branch or naval science—have at their disposal a vast arsenal of methods and means for carrying out the various types of missions in differing situations. All branches of naval science began to use the new methods of operations research, based on the use of electronic computer techniques. The use of these methods has considerably accelerated scientific research and pursuits, and has made it possible to create a contemporary theory for operational art, and for naval tactics, which responds quickly to requirements of the armed struggle. The budding revolution in military affairs has spread to all fields of naval science as well. By 1967 there were enough resources to improve both theater and naval forces. Submarines and naval aviation, equipped with nuclear weapons, had a leading place in the program. Thus, there began a new stage in the development of the fleet and of its naval science.
