ABSTRACT

Sport management education at the tertiary (university) level is thriving worldwide, and the increased internationalization of higher education around the world has been well documented. Many institutions, responding to the shifting global economy, have made internationalization a critical priority. Recruiting international students and exporting academic programmes to international markets can be an effective strategy for overcoming economic challenges in higher education while internationalizing curricula enables institutions to prepare students to work in a globalized world. The roles of academic partnerships, through regional organizations and international sport management associations, in preparing the next generation of sport managers, opportunities and challenges associated with the movement towards internationalized curricula and accreditation are explored and discussed. The dynamics between sport management education programmes, regional and international sport management associations, and independent regulatory bodies as well as the need for these entities to work together to enhance sport management education is also presented for global discussion.
