ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some factors influencing the export decision of the Algerian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The productivity of the firm is one of the internal factors that can influence the export decision. Various external factors driving the direction and export performance of the firm have been identified as variables that can largely influence the export decision. Internal business factors form an internal incentive for internationalization, by expanding its activity beyond the borders of its native country. Some empirical studies have examined the relationship between firms’ size and their export decisions. The productivity of the firm is one of the internal factors that can influence the export decision. In terms of innovation expressed by the use of patenting in the production process, the results of various studies remain controversial.
