ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on the role of a grandmother and explores issues raised in two articles. The first was covered on the Zimbabwe News website which reported that “Children of Zimbabwean families resident in the UK are being seized by social workers on an astonishing scale. Most are taken never to be seen again”. The second article, ‘Children are not safe in the UK’, was written by Dr Masimba Mavaza and published in The Patriot: Celebrating Being Zimbabwean. In the chapter, the author, now a grandmother in Surrey in the United Kingdom and a cultural outsider, talks about her grandmother and the state of children in Zimbabwe.
