ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses many aspects of the Value & Access (V&A) organization and the processes through which it interacts with the many disciplines that it collaborates with. It considers a different, more access empowered organizational form, which perhaps better reflects the needs and demands of today’s and tomorrow’s market place. The V&A function needs to be closely involved in the drug development and commercialization process to ensure that evidence development is focused on demonstrating value to support Access Journey decisions. Given the impact that access considerations should have across commercial and Research and Development (R&D), it deserves serious consideration to create a role of Chief Access Officer any R&D based pharmaceutical company. V&A databases can either be stand-alone systems or well-integrated modules of the corporate financial system. V&A team members may be co-located with the product teams. Additional functional pricing support and specialized outcomes support, for example in health economics modeling, can complement the team through a center of excellence.
