ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the religious education in Bangladesh with particular focus on its historical development, the politics involved in it and the current curriculum policy provision and practices. We provide a glimpse of religious education from the very beginning of Indian civilization. We highlight different regime changes and big political events occurring throughout its history, and how these affected religious education. The current state of the madrasah education system, as well as the learning and teaching of religious subjects in the general education system, are thoroughly examined.
