ABSTRACT

Augmented reality (AR) is a fast-developing field which provides an interactive experience where-in computer generated perceptual information are projected into real life environment, creating an interactive experience. Application of AR into construction field implies that a 3D BIM model can be visualized at a specific intended location using mobile and other devices specially developed for the same in real time. Application of AR in construction industry can prove to be accurate, saving time and money, enabling better planning of projects and helping in better visualization of the project. This experiment is to understand the potential benefits that can be obtained by implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) and AR in facility management phase of a building by undertaking a case study approach on the institutional library in ahmedabad city of gujarat. The developed integrated model was applied on a case study and depicted benefits of assets management, better visualization and rectification benefits towards facility management. This project based research work will give evidence to back up the relatively unexplored potential of BIM and AR in facility management.
