ABSTRACT

Chickpea scientifically known as Cicer arietinum L. is one of the most important crop grown under the family Leguminosae. There are basically two types of Chickpea grown in India one is Desi types which account for 85% of area and the second one is Kabuli types. India is one of the leading states in Chickpea Production. In India, wilting is one of the significant diseases of chickpea. Loss due to this disease may vary from 20-100%. Wilting is observed in different cultivars of chickpea at different growth stages causing significant yield loss with different degree of severity. Wilting at early stage of growth causes more loss than at later stage. In seedling stage, disease can be observed within 3 weeks of sowing. The pathogen remains in infected plant debris in the soil or in seeds. The primary infection initiates through chlamydospores which can remain viable up to next crop season. The pathogen perpetuates in roots as well as stems.
