ABSTRACT

The author says that the one rule they drilled in her head in hr childhood was NO BOYS until after college. Living in the Bible Belt as a Buddhist made me question my religion at times. Despite her dreams of being a WNBA superstar, her parents would not let her, a girl, play sports because they wanted to protect her. Education is just bait for attracting better men because a man should not marry beneath himself. When boys asked her out in high school, she brushed them off as jokes; she finally accepted she loved girls after developing a huge crush for a girl. In her 3rd year, she finally sought her school’s counseling services. She slowly unlearned myths such as “the purity of virginity” and “masturbation is only for guys.” She joined the Tumblr community, but she still is partially in the closet. Coming out will always be a continuous process that she will have to get used to.
