ABSTRACT

It is necessary for all of us to employ and enjoy human rights in order to fully develop into human beings. Similarly it is obligatory for all children to enjoy their rights in order to live healthy and attain holistic development. Childhood is a period that takes place in every human life, during which one can neither be accepted nor provide consent to participate in different realms of social life. Childhood is not a world of freedom and chance; rather, it is captivity where children are docile and not independent in their lives. Thus, it is essential to focus on child rights giving them freedom to live healthy and be protected from all hardships. The objective of this chapter is to put forward how child rights are considered in India, along with the focus on the health and well-being of children. Health is not just confined to physiological processes - it includes the physical, mental and social status of an individual. Health is a key factor for any nation’s growth and development; hence, the rights of children have to be recognized and exercised in order to ensure they live healthy lives. This chapter breaks down the issues in child rights in India to understand how they are affecting the health and well-being of children by violating and ignoring their rights.
