ABSTRACT
The chapter begins with a history of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method research in planning. It further provides an introduction to general research topics, including data type, inductive and deductive logic, timeframe, research design, and triangulation. The chapter then provides greater detail into the three research types, and provides an explanation of why different research types are chosen.
