ABSTRACT

With a rapid growth of Muslim population in the world, the Malaysian Government is taking the initiative to standardise the Halal logistics sector. Having the globally well-respected and recognised Halal certification, Malaysia possesses a strategic first mover advantage in a Halal supply chain system. This chapter reviews the consumer perceptions of Halal logistics, including their awareness and demand on Halal logistics of meat products and the effect towards the development of transport and logistics industry. An extensive and comprehensive review of Halal logistics in Malaysia has been made and presented through the six subtopics in this chapter. This chapter critically covers transport and logistics industry, Halal industry and Halal logistics, consumer perception on Halal logistics in Malaysia, and issues and opportunities of Halal logistics in Malaysia. This chapter highlights issues related to internal and external business environments of logistics firms and interactions among the stakeholders. These issues bring new opportunities in Halal logistics and Halal certification training programmes as well as overseas business expansion. This chapter will contribute to the existing knowledge on Halal logistics and provide some practical implications in enhancing Halal logistics in Malaysia. Furthermore, the growth of Halal logistics should not lead to over-regulation.
