ABSTRACT

There are many complications and deficiencies in chemically defined drugs, especially drug resistances that appear in cancer chemotherapy. In spite of the fact that chemically defined drugs are most effective, severe adverse effects limit the use of these drugs. People have to show more attention to plant-based sources of cancer drugs to enhance the anti-cancer agents present in the drugs. Historically, plant-derived products have been the source of the active component of pharmacological agents, especially in the areas of the disease-causing organism and cancer treatment. Plant-based products play an important role in the innovation of novel drugs and new drug-lead compounds; it is a vital resource of the new structure and unique role in preventing the growth of tumors. Nowadays, more than 50% of extensively used anti-cancer drugs in the world are resulting from plant sources. Numerous active plant products and their derivatives with elevated activities and fewer side effects can be getting by structure alteration and transformation. Particularly in the field of anti-tumor and anti-AIDS drugs, the researches and improvement of new drugs from plant-based products show a booming vitality and an attractive prospect. The purpose of the study was to review the results, development, and the main anti-tumor active components of plant products in recent years.
