ABSTRACT

Reliability, as a key factor to ensure the operational safety of the system, is drawing increasing attention and leading to a good deal of in-depth research. There are several methods to improve the reliability of complex systems, such as simplifying the system structure, improving component performance, providing redundancy and replacing with new components. This chapter discusses a multi-objective maintenance optimization model for complex systems and adopted the mixed maintenance method of direct maintenance and redundancy maintenance. During maintenance optimization, the maintenance cost is inevitable to be considered whichever method we choose to improve system reliability. The complex system must be maintained when its reliability cannot meet the engineering requirements. An acceptable maintenance scheme should meet the requirement of both the system reliability and maintenance cost. A. Mettas proposed an exponential cost-reliability model considering precision, manufacturing difficulty, and reliability range of a component.
