ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is concerned with whether the heritability indices of intelligence test performance have anything to say about the educability of individuals, with the implications of plasticity in psychological development and the role of experience in the development of competence, and with the two kinds of intelligence. No claim of comprehensive coverage is made for this work, yet, taken together, the articles in this anthology will shed light on a great deal of the domain of human intelligence and competence and the factors which influence it. The book presents various aspects of social class and education in the development of competence. It is also concerned with the differences between and similarities of creativity and intelligence. The book also suggestions for improving the status quo.
