ABSTRACT

China’s people are increasingly concerned about health as their economy improves, and increasingly hoping to enjoy high-quality medical services when they run into health problems. This chapter discusses a study that can therefore be summarized by the following three points understand the main problems facing growth of the commercial health insurance industry in China by analyzing its experience to date, then looking at development strategies and operating models that improve upon that experience; use ‘grey-correlation analysis’ to ascertain the key factors that influence demand for commercial health insurance, then analyze the extent to which each factor influences demand, and estimate potential demand for commercial health insurance based on the GM (1, 1) model; gain a more intuitive understanding of the impact of each factor on the development of commercial health insurance in China through qualitative and quantitative analysis and provide recommendations to policymakers on how to promote the development of commercial health insurance in China.
