ABSTRACT

Cellular pathology deals with the diagnosis of any disease mostly through analysis of tissue, cell, and body fluid samples. Speedy detection and analysis of such samples can help in the identification of the disease. The contribution of Micro Electro-Mechanical systems (MEMS) has been very promising in the disease diagnosis at cellular level. As the body fluid samples are unique to an individual in terms of the antigens present in them; one can exploit this feature by coating the surface of the mass sensing structure with the anti-bodies of the suspected antigen in a patient’s blood. Hence, the presence of a disease causing pathogen in a suspected patient’s blood can be identified through the stress induced in the sensing structure. This stress can vary various micro-level parameters of the physical structure. Through our work, we are going to analyze the variations in impedance and capacitance due to the bio-sample and draw about a constructive comparison between the two parameters so that the type and level of severity of the disease can be estimated.
