ABSTRACT

This chapter brings to life research completed on the Reciprocal Style by Michael Goldberger during the 1970s yet never published. The Reciprocal Style (RS) from The Spectrum of Teaching Styles, would appear to be particularly useful during early skill acquisition because feedback to learners about their performance is provided individually and in a timely fashion. In RS learners operate in pairs with one performing the task while being observed by and getting immediate feedback from her/his partner. The feedback is based on skill criteria provided by the teacher. After the first learner completes the task, they switch roles and reciprocate. This chapter demonstrated that students taught using RS performed better than Practice Style learners, offered more and better feedback and were better able to analyse a motor skill compared with their Practice Style and control group counterparts.
