ABSTRACT

People move for reasons as varied as economic necessity or the desire to improve their quality of life. Research has shown that moving can be an extremely stressful life event. Libraries can reduce the stress of relocation by providing to those moving information about the area to which they are relocating. Sources and information seeking strategies appropriate to gathering information related to the history, geography, demography, cost of living, climate, educational system, and the cultural, religious, and political environments of different areas, especially smaller cities and towns, are discussed.
