ABSTRACT

There are two kinds of librarian accountability, that to our superiors, and the more important (usually) accountability to ourselves as professionals entrusted with an important task. Regarding either, we cannot account for our performance without data on what and how we are doing. One area where this is obviously critical is in the acquisition and deacquisition of books. A large portion of our budgets and staff are used up here, and a large measure of our effectiveness as librarians is determined here.
