Serial Union Listing in a Regional Academic Consortium
The transition from an IBM punch card-based regional union list of serials to an OCLC-based union listing system is described. The Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges (LVAIC), a cooperative of six private colleges in eastern Pennsylvania, dealt with issues of scope, funding, conversion contract language and administration, and bibliographic policy. Concerns are raised about patrons’ ability to use easily the printed list produced by OCLC. However, the list is too new to be evaluated yet in terms of format, scope, cost, or quality.
