ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides an excellent comparative analysis of Singapore and Finland countries that are top-scoring in the Programme for International Students Assessment tests. It discusses how diversity and superdiversity impact the educational system of these countries. The book deals with the novel, but also politically sensitive, topic of Syrian refugees and their integration into the Arctic countries. The book addresses much gender-specific vulnerabilities that hinder immigrant women’s integration and it also identifies women-specific integration stresses and shocks. It explores the ongoing debates on practising a personal law other than that of the mainstream people. The book includes the key factors responsible for creating a malicious attitude towards the practitioners of Muslim family law, along with the main challenges faced by immigrant Muslims living in Finnish Lapland.
