ABSTRACT

Both Spain and Chile have placed energy efficiency at the core of their energy and climate policies. Spain, within its obligations imposed by the European Union, and also Chile have eliminated most of the regulatory barriers that slow its expansion. However, these countries have to make a significant effort to improve the information given to their energy consumers. Energy efficiency policies are closely linked to the support for renewable energy, distributed generation and self-consumption.

A pending task in Spain and Chile is to articulate effective mechanisms to integrate energy efficiency into the market. Meanwhile, it is necessary to have an adequate system of aids and fiscal measures that make these investments attractive to companies and individuals.
